FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I’m worried that we will feel/be awkward and uncomfortable in front of the camera…

Or my partner isn’t too keen on a photo shoot… or the kids will be crazy and uncooperative!

These are all very common concerns and feelings I promise! But I am skilled at reading people, and supporting them to feel comfortable. I promise I will help settle you, your partner, your kids in to the session, so that everyone can feel as at ease as possible.

I will provide you with information on how to best prepare for your session and set things up for success. Trust that I will not be judging anyone’s behaviour, or your parenting. I find we almost always have more patience, tolerance and understanding for the behaviour of other people’s children than our own (bit of a cruel twist of parenthood that!). So know that however you might feel about how your children behaving during the session; I’m never going to view it as much of a challenge. Rest assured that perfectly behaved children are not a requirement for getting beautiful photos you will love.

When should I enquire/book my shoot?

For maternity and newborn sessions that are time sensitive, it is good to get in early so you don’t miss out! I recommend getting in touch at least a couple of months before you want your session to occur.

Family sessions usually have a bit more flexibility, but try not to leave enquiring until the last minute or you may miss being able to book for the time you want.

Where should we have our shoot?

Ideally, you should have your shoot somewhere that is meaningful to you and your family.

Maybe that means having it at home, or your favourite beach, bush or park; or having a wander through your neighbourhood, or somewhere else you love to hang out. But the options are endless and I am totally open to exploring with you. Your session does not have to fit the mould or standard family photo shoot. Your session should be about documenting yourself/family in whatever setting you feel relaxed and happy in. That documents moments and memories that are a true reflection of you. Maybe that looks like playing by (or in!) the ocean ~ I’m here for it! Maybe that looks like going for a skate; or getting icecream or coffee ~ I’m here for it! Maybe its snuggling at home; or a picnic and a bush walk… or tailgate sundowners with pizza and beers ~ I’m here for it all! Your session can look however you’d love it to look. Because when you are in your element, that’s where the magic happens.

If you’re totally stuck for ideas, I have a location guide that I am happy to share with you once your booking deposit has been received; and I am totally happy to help you with planning your dream session!

What is the best time of day for shoots?

If you are having an outdoors session, golden hour (the hour before sunset) is the best time for beautiful lighting. So this is usually the time that outdoor sessions are scheduled for. But if you would prefer your session at a different time of day I am totally happy to accommodate this, once we’ve had a chance to chat through how the time of day impacts on what your photos will look like (harsher light earlier in the day).

Indoor sessions are usually scheduled for late morning. Again, I can be flexible with this depending on your needs.

What should we wear?

It’s worth putting some thought into your outfits as styling plays a big part in how your photos look.  Choosing outfits that compliment each other and work well together, and with your location, is always my recommendation. This will keep the focus in the photos on moments of connection.

Equally important is dressing in clothes that are authentic to you and your family.  It’s important to wear things that everyone will be comfortable in (and are seasonally appropriate!); and what makes you feel good!  Keep in mind that you want to look back on your photos in years to come and feel ‘yep that was us!’ rather than ‘why the hell did we wear that?!”  So there’s no need to wear a dress if you never wear/don’t feel good in dresses; a nice pair of pants and top can look equally as beautiful.  And if Dad/the kids never wear button up shirts, there’s no need for them to wear one for the shoot; a simple nice t-shirt can look just as stylish.  It's more about choosing clothing that you feel great in, that matches the vibe of your shoot, and works well together without being distracting; rather than getting dressed up and fitting a certain aesthetic.

I am always happy to help chat through ideas/options if this is something that you would like help with.

Do you offer a client wardrobe?

Yes I have a collection of dresses for mum and a range of newborn outfits/accessories, blankets and rugs available for you to use in your session, if this is something you would like to make use of. New pieces are added over time.

Details of these are available in my client wardrobe booklet and via my client wardrobe highlight on Instagram.

What days do you work/schedule sessions?

I usually try to schedule sunset sessions for Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; and indoor sessions for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. I have some limited weekend availability depending on my family life schedule.

Can I include our fur baby in our session?

Yes of course! Assuming your choice of location is fur baby friendly.

Do you offer payment plans?

I sure do! Payment is taken by bank transfer. You are required to pay the booking deposit up front; and then you are welcome to make payments as you would like in the lead up to your session. You can make payments in amounts/frequency based on what works for you; providing the full amount is paid no later than two days prior to your session.

Do you do gift vouchers?

Yes I do! Gift vouchers can be purchased for either a full session; for a value of your choosing towards a session; or for a value of your choosing towards prints/products. Both hard copy and electronic versions of the gift voucher are available. Hard copy gift vouchers are wrapped up and beautifully presented making it feel like the gift that it is. Please get in touch via email or use the enquiry form if you would like to arrange a gift voucher.

What is your cancellation policy?

If we need to reschedule due to illness (yours or mine) we will reschedule for another time as soon as is mutually convenient. Weather reschedules are only granted if the weather is really unsuitable (not just if cold or windy; or a little rain forecast). The decision to reschedule is made as late as possible: on the day, prior to the time that both you and/or I would need to leave for the session, as the weather forecasts are often proven unreliable!

If you reschedule at short notice (less than two weeks) for reasons outside of illness, payment of a new booking fee ($100) will be required for loss of income associated with having to change your session date. Further terms and conditions are outlined in the photography contract. I am an understanding and accommodating person, but I do respectfully ask that you consider the impact of rescheduling on my business (loss of potential income, increased workload, needing to adjust arrangements for my children and potential increased gallery turn around times for yourself and others) and take this into consideration as to whether rescheduling is really necessary.

Do you provide copies of the raw, unedited images?

No sorry I don’t:  this is like a crime to photographers, haha!

Can you help with getting photos printed and photo products ordered?

I sure can! A range of options are available for printing high quality prints and ordering beautiful print products. You will be provided with information outlining the options before your session, and again after gallery delivery. I am always happy to help with getting your images off your screens and into your home where you can love and appreciate them every day.

Can I order more photos later?

Sorry, no. I am not currently set up for ordering more photos down the track. You will need to order the photos that you love at the time of choosing images for your final gallery. A range of gallery extension options are available (as outlined in your quote/invoice).

How long does my gallery/digital images remain active for?

Your online gallery will remain active for 3 months from time of delivery. It is your responsibility to make sure that you download and back up your images to your preferred storage device prior to your gallery going offline. You will receive an automated email reminder as your gallery approaches expiry.

Do you do event or wedding photography?

While my main jam is motherhood and family photography, I am absolutely open to (and also love) helping aligned small businesses document their offerings/event and lovers document their special day when this is an intimate, micro wedding kind of occasion. Feel free to send me an email or submit an enquiry via my contact form.
